Lacrosse Concludes 2021 Season with Road-Loss to Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College lacrosse squad took on Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game Monday evening, where they fell to the Giants, 17-6. The Falcons conclude their season with a record of (0-5) overall and in the CSAC, as Keystone improved to (2-3) overall and (2-3) in conference action.

Keystone kicked things off by scoring four-straight goals over the first 12 minutes of action. Cedar Crest scored their first of the game in the 14th minute to cut the deficit to three goals, 4-1, before both squads exchanged goals, to put the score at 6-2. The Black and Yellow would net back-to-back goals to cut into the lead, 6-4. The Giants would get one more goal in the opening half, putting the Falcons behind 7-4 at halftime.

Keystone would score three consecutive goals in the second half, but Cedar Crest would find the back of the net in the 36th minute, putting the score at 10-5. The Giants would tack on four more goals before the Falcons' final goal of the contest was scored with 15 minutes to play. Keystone added three more goals before the final whistle blew, as Cedar Crest fell 17-6.

A pair of Falcons contributed three goals each, scored by senior Rhica-May Austin (Franklin, NJ/North Brunswick Township) and junior Sydney Heathcott (Newburgh, Ind./Castle High). Austin led the Black and Yellow with four points, scoring three times, twice off free-position shots, and added an assist. Austin also won five draw controls, picked up two ground balls and had a caused turnover. Heathcott scored all three goals on her three shots on goal, to go with her caused turnover and ground ball.

Freshman Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical) ended the game with a point in the scorer's column, being credited with an assist, won a draw control and caused one turnover. The other freshman on the Falcons' roster, Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard), scooped up three ground balls. Sophomores Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly), Abbey Mower (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), and Alexandra Infante (Stowe, Vt./Stowe High) each contributed a ground ball and Jones won a draw control.

Senior Allison Churchill (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) made her final start in net for the Falcons. She made nine saves on 26 shots on goal. She also picked up three ground balls. Churchill received the loss in the decision, putting her record at (0-5) for the year.

Overall, Cedar Crest took 16 total shots, with eight of them going on goal, grabbed 12 ground balls, caused three turnovers and won seven draw controls. The Falcons finished going 2-for-8 on their free-position shots and 5-15 on clear attempts.
