Volleyball Splits on Saturday at Buttermaker Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team split a pair of matches on day two of the Buttermaker Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons fell to Pitt-Bradford, 3-1, before defeating Penn State Abington, 3-1.

Against the Panthers, the Falcons fell in four sets. Pitt-Bradford took the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-22. Cedar Crest got on the board with a 25-20 third set victory. The Panthers won the fourth set, 25-20, to close out the match. Sophomore Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) led the Falcons with 15 kills and 20 assists. Grapsy also added 15 digs. Graduate student Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) tallied a team-high 26 digs while freshman Alexis Cummins (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) added 24 digs and 11 kills. Sophomore Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Laurel, Md./Atholton) registered eight kills and 16 digs. Senior Talia Watson (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) dished out 16 assists while junior Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) paced Cedar Crest with four blocks.

Against the Nittany Lions, the Falcons won in four sets. Penn State Abington won the opening set, 25-17. Cedar Crest rebounded to win the final three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-20. Grapsy tallied 14 kills while Schouppe and Cummins followed with 12 and 11, respectively. Hoppes registered a team-high 36 digs while Grapsy and Cummins finished with 23 each. Sanchez-Castro recorded 21 digs on the match. Watson handed out 26 assists for the Falcons.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, it was announced that Hoppes was named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Cedar Crest (4-3 overall) will be back in action on Tuesday, September 14 for its home opener against Ursinus College. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
