ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team lost to Misericordia University, 4-0, on Tuesday night at the FalconPlex.
The Cougars scored twice in the second and added one apiece in the final two quarters in the win.
Junior Shannon Murphy (Denville, N.J.) netted the first goal in the 21
st minute off an assist from senior Mikayla Cavenas (Conyngham, Pa.). Cavenas got in the scoring column in the 30
th minute as she blasted it in front. The marker was set up by senior Anna Effinger (Exten, Pa.).
Effinger pitched in a goal in the third quarter while senior Kristen McCloskey (Lumberton, N.J.) registered the final tally for Misericordia for the 4-0 final.
The Cougars outshot the Falcons 17-5 on the night and held a 5-3 edge in corners.
Senior Olivia Gretz (Elkridge, Md.) was credited with the win in the cage for Misericordia. She made two saves over 60 minutes. Freshman
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) was tagged with the loss for Cedar Crest as she converted 12 saves.
Cedar Crest (2-2 overall) will travel to William Paterson University on Monday, September 21 for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
