WAYNE, N.J. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team lost to William Paterson University, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at Wrightman Stadium. The win moves the Pioneers to 4-2 on the season while the Falcons fall to 2-3 overall.
Senior Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J.) got William Paterson on the board in the second minute. She took a shot from the left wing, flipping the shot high for her third goal of the season. The marker was set up by graduate student Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J.).
The home squad added another first-quarter goal on a tally from senior Abigail Viola (Monroe Township, N.J.). She dribbled up the left seam and put her shot past freshman goalkeeper
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) to give the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
Viola was back in the scoring column in the 51
st minute on a goal that was assisted by sophomore Carly Santucci (Bayville, N.J.). Senior Hope Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, N.J.) netted the final goal for William Paterson in the 58
th minute for the 4-0 final. Hoopes was credited with the assist.
Rifino registered four saves while freshman Kourtney Hartzel (York, Pa.) and sophomore Emily Hoagland (Bayville, N.J.) split time in net for the Pioneers and made one save each.
The Pioneers outshot the Falcons 14-2 and held a 12-4 advantage in corners.
Cedar Crest will next play Moravian University on Wednesday, September 22 at the FalconPlex at 7:00 p.m.
