ASTON, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team overcame a second-half deficit to post a 3-1 victory over Neumann University on Thursday afternoon.
"It was a total team win tonight," said Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "I couldn't be happier or more proud of this team. We started a little panicked, but by the time the second half rolled around, we were composed and executed the way we know we can. We did the little things well. Everyone gave everything. Attitude, effort, and focus won this one."
The Falcons trailed 1-0 at intermission but answered with three tallies in the second half. Graduate student
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) netted the go-ahead goal in the 58
th minute to propel Cedar Crest (3-0-1 overall) to its second straight win.
Neumann opened the scoring in the 31
st minute as the Knights sent the ball into the box off a free kick and it found the back of the net off a Cedar Crest defender.
Freshman
Rebecca Verdi (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) registered the equalizer in the 51
st minute, which was assisted by classmate
MacKayla Reed (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area Senior).
Tennis put the Falcons in front in the 58
th minute when she sunk a penalty shot to put Cedar Crest up 2-1.
Graduate student
Erika D'Angelo (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) added an insurance marker in the 77
th minute to pad the lead to 3-1, the eventual final.
The Falcons had a commanding 11-2 advantage in total shots and in corners, 6-1. Junior goalkeeper
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) finished with one save for Cedar Crest while freshman Lee Macrina (West Wildwood, N.J.) recorded five stops for the Knights.
Cedar Crest will stay on the road and will head to John Jay College on Saturday, September 18. Kickoff is scheduled for noon. Neumann (2-2 overall) returns to action at home against The College of Saint Vincent on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
