LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss to Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on Thursday night.
The Giants got on the scoreboard in the sixth minute on an unassisted goal from sophomore Victoria Mainero (Francisco Alvarez, Buenos Aires, Argentina). The 1-0 margin stood for the remainder of the first stanza.
Keystone tacked on its final two goals in the second quarter. Junior Courtney Dwyer (Scranton, Pa.) found the back of the cage off a pass from freshman Julianna Santiago (Allentown, Pa.) in the 17
th minute for her fifth goal of the season.
Santiago registered the Giants' final marker in the 30
th minute. The assist was was credited to Dwyer.
Freshman
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) netted the lone goal for the Falcons in the 51
st minute as the contest ended in the 3-1 final.
Cedar Crest was outshot 20-13 on the night. The Giants had 16 shots on goal, while all 13 Falcon shots found their way on goal. Keystone had a slight advantage in penalty corners, taking 12 to 11 for Cedar Crest.
Sophomore Hannah Osbahr (Old Bridge, N.J.) got the start in cage for the Giants, playing the first half while registering five saves. Sophomore Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md.) played the final 30 minutes in the cage, also converting five stops. Freshman goalkeeper
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) recorded 13 saves in the loss for the Falcons.
Cedar Crest (2-6 overall, 0-1 CSAC) returns home on Saturday, October 2 when they welcome in Lancaster Bible College to the FalconPlex for a CSAC contest. First whistle is slated for 11:00 a.m.
