LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College basketball team suffered a 62-48 setback to Cairn University on Thursday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest at the Mason Activity Center.
The teams played a virtually even first half as the Highlanders entered the break with a one-point lead, 26-25. Cairn held a 15-14 edge after the first quarter while the Falcons and the Highlanders each put up 11 points in the second stanza.
Cairn began to pull away in the third and built a 10-point advantage after outscoring Cedar Crest 21-12 in the quarter.
The margin would remain as many as eight in the final frame before the Highlanders would come away with the 14-point win, 62-48.
Cairn was led by senior Dakota Hitchner (Ocean City, N.J.), who registered 24 points on 8-for-15 shooting to go along with three rebounds, and six assists. Freshman Kailee Sobrino (Vail, Ariz.) accompanied Hitchner in double figures with 16 points. She also tallied one rebound, one assist, and three steals in 35 minutes. Senior Korin Bradley (Levittown, Pa.) finished with eight points, 12 boards in 25 minutes.
Junior
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) poured in a team-high 21 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Falcons. She also had four assists and five steals in 40 minutes. Classmate
Jenna McDonald (Ovid, N.Y./South Seneca) tallied a season-high 20 points on 9-for-16 shooting to go along with three boards, two assists, and three steals.
Cedar Crest (2-9 overall, 1-7 CSAC) will return to action on Saturday, January 22 at Notre Dame of Maryland University for a conference tilt starting at 1:00 p.m. Cairn (8-6 overall, 6-3 CSAC) will travel to Bryn Athyn College for its next contest on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
