Basketball Clipped By Keystone, 79-74

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College basketball team suffered a 79-74 setback to Keystone College on Monday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup at Lees Gymnasium.

The Giants outscored the Mariners 27-24 in the fourth quarter to secure their seventh straight win, improving to 10-6 overall and 8-3 in league play. Senior Lee Gordon (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a game-high 32 points while adding five rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Senior Mac Oribello (San Diego, Calif.) pitched in 21 points, two rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Junior Renata Alberici (Hazlet, N.J.) rounded out the Keystone players in double figures with 11 points to go along with eight boards, three assists, and two steals.

Cedar Crest (4-11 overall, 3-9 CSAC) was led by 25 points from CSAC Player of the Week in junior Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk), who also recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 10 boards. Classmate Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) netted a career-high 21 points to go with seven caroms while junior Jenna McDonald (Ovid, N.Y./South Seneca) chipped in 12 points.

Keystone jumped out to a 7-0 lead but was quickly answered with a 7-0 spurt from the Falcons, capped off by a layup by freshman Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin). Cedar Crest took the 9-7 lead on a bucket from senior Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville), but Oribello knocked down the triple to give the Giants a 10-9 advantage after one.

The Falcons went on an 11-1 run over the opening 6:34 of the second stanza to build a nine-point advantage, 20-11. Cedar Crest maintained control for the rest of the quarter, however, they would enter the half with a three-point lead, 24-21.

With the score tied at 52-50 heading into the final stanza in favor of Keystone, the Giants pulled ahead early in the fourth quarter but couldn't shake Cedar Crest. The Falcons trailed by three on two different occasions in the final frame but couldn't gain the advantage in the last few minutes. Cedar Crest got its final bucket from McDonald with five seconds remaining as they trailed 77-74, but Keystone came right back with a layup from senior Abby Ritz (Tunkhannock, Pa.) for the final basket in the for the 79-74 contest.

Cedar Crest will next play at Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, February 5 at 1:00 p.m. Keystone returns to action at home against Rosemont College on Wednesday, February 2 at 6:00 p.m.
