BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College basketball team rallied from a double-digit after three quarters to claim a 57-54 win over Bryn Athyn College on Saturday afternoon at Asplundh Field House.
The Falcons (5-11 overall, 4-9 CSAC) got back on the winning track behind 17-point outputs from senior
Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) and junior
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk). Junior
Jenna McDonald (Ovid, N.Y./South Seneca) registered five points to go along with game-highs of 12 rebounds and 13 assists. Freshman
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) contributed nine points, nine boards, and one assist.
Junior Terrae Lewis (Newark, N.J.) paced the Lions (8-10 overall, 7-7 CSAC) with 15 points. Classmate Aida Berry (Bronx, N.Y.) joined Lewis in double figures with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
After a first half that saw Bryn Athyn carry a 12-point lead into the locker room (29-17), Cedar Crest was able to trim the deficit to five, 39-34, with 1:13 remaining in the third following a jumper from junior
Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly). The Lions had the answer with back-to-back triples to close the quarter and push the deficit back to double digits, 45-34.
A 19-8 run by the Falcons run over the first 5:57 of the final frame pulled the score even at 53 apiece. Peters put Cedar Crest on top for good after she knocked down a jumper with 2:01 to go in regulation. A free throw from senior Alexis Mitchem (Trenton, N.J.) with 1:24 to go to cut the margin to one, 55-54. Bryn Athyn had a chance to take the lead on the game's final possession, but Lewis turned the ball over and McDonald converted a layup for the last bucket in the 57-54 final.
Cedar Crest will next host the University of Valley Forge on Wednesday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. Bryn Athyn will hit the road for a conference contest at Saint Elizabeth University on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
