ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College basketball team dropped a 62-51 decision to the University of Valley Forge on Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action at Lees Gymnasium.
The win moved the Patriots to 5-13 overall and 5-10 in conference action. The Falcons fall to 5-12 overall and 4-10 with the loss.
Junior
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) led Cedar Crest with a game-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Classmate
Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) grabbed a team-high 11 boards and added six points. Senior Amaya Brown (Trenton, N.J.) paced Valley Forge with 17 points. Freshman Jessi Manning (Paterson, N.J.) was the other Patriot in double-figures in the scoring column with 11.
The first quarter featured a back-and-forth battle with Valley Forge leading 11-10. The Patriots stretched its advantage to double digits in the second, holding as large as an 11-point margin 30-19, following a jumper from freshman Kaionna Hanna (Las Vegas, Nev.) with 2:41 to play and Cedar Crest trailed just 30-22 at the half.
The Falcons were held to just eight points in the third stanza and Valley Forge grew the lead to as many as 17 (39-22) with 7:30 to play. Cedar Crest continued to battle and were down 14 to start the final frame, 44-30.
The Falcons tried to make a comeback in the fourth but were unable to get the deficit under nine before falling in the 62-51 final.
Cedar Crest will now embark on a three-game road trip, beginning at Keystone College for a CSAC tilt on Saturday, February 12 at 1:00 p.m. Valley Forge will head home for a contest against Cairn University tipping off on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
