Keystone Overtakes Basketball Late, Hands Falcons Conference Loss

LA PLUME, Pa. – Keystone College used an 18-6 fourth-quarter run to overtake the Cedar Crest College basketball team in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest on Saturday afternoon, handing the Falcons a 73-60 loss.

Junior Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) netted a game-high 22 points to pace the Falcons, who slip to 5-13 overall and 4-11 in league play. Classmate Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) chipped in 11 points and two rebounds while senior Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) added 10 points.

The Giants (14-7 overall, 12-4 CSAC) built as big as a seven-point lead in the opening quarter (16-9) with 32 seconds left after a bucket from senior Bella Lamonea (Glendora, Calif.). Reid was able to convert an and-one opportunity to cut the deficit to four at the end of one, 16-12.

The contest remained tight in second stanza with neither team holding more than a five-point advantage. Keystone constructed that lead after a three-pointer from senior Mac Oribello (San Diego, Calif.) and a layup by junior Renata Alberici (Hazlet, N.J.) to make the score 31-26 with 2:03 to play before halftime. Cedar Crest made a late push, tallying four straight points on a pair of free throws by junior Jenna McDonald (Ovid, N.Y./South Seneca) and a layup from Wilson to trim the margin to one at the half, 31-30.

The third quarter was close and featured four lead changes, two on each side. Neither team held more than a three-point lead. In the closing seconds of the frame, Wilson gave the Falcons a 43-42 lead, but Lamonea converted a triple with three seconds remaining to send the Giants into the final quarter up by two, 45-43.

With the game tied 54-all with 4:41 remaining in regulation, the Giants would finish the game on an 18-6 run to secure the 73-60 final score.

Cedar Crest will next play on Monday, February 14 at the University of Valley Forge. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m. Keystone will travel to Centenary for a non-conference contest on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
