ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team earned a 10-1 victory over Bryn Athyn College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tilt on Tuesday night at the FalconPlex.
The Falcons deposited a pair of goals in the opening quarter. Senior
Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) scored her first of three on the night just 45 seconds into the contest. Junior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton) ) found the back of the cage in the fifth minute off an assist from senior
Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh).
Cedar Crest added another two goals in the second stanza. Cieri netted an unassisted tally in the 19
th minute while junior
Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) set up Hinkle in the 21
st minute to give the Falcons a 4-0 advantage at the half.
Cedar Crest kept attacking in the third quarter and registered four goals on nine shots. Cieri put one home in the 31
st minute. Marone added her second of the game in the 32
nd minute while senior
Morgan Frantz (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) recorded her third marker of the season with a goal in the 40
th minute. Marone capped her hat trick in the 43
rd minute to make the score 8-1 going into the final frame.
The Lions got on the scoreboard with a goal by first-year Alexis Ewer (Bensalem, Pa.) in the 48
th minute, but Cieri and Hinkle each scored in the quarter to make it the 10-1 final.
First-year goalkeeper
Kendall Heiney (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) was credited with the win in the cage for the Falcons. First-year Veronica Diaz (Easthampton, N.J.) converted 10 saves for Bryn Athyn.
Cedar Crest dominated the offensive end, outshooting the Lions, 31-4, and had 12 penalty corners to Bryn Athyn's one.
Cedar Crest (5-7 overall, 2-2 CSAC) hits the road for a conference game at Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. Bryn Athyn (0-8 overall, 0-3 CSAC) remain on the road at Wilkes University on Sunday, October 16 at 1:00 p.m.
