ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to seven matches with a 6-0 triumph over Rosemont College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex.
"I'm really happy with our play from start to finish today," said Head Soccer Coach
Jesse Zafiratos. "We scored a bunch of really nice goals, and most importantly got the three points we needed to stay in first place."
The Falcons tallied three goals in each half en route to the victory.
Senior
Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) got Cedar Crest on the board with a goal in the 10
th minute. The assist went to classmate
Morgan Love (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown).
The Falcons tacked on another in the 20
th minute. Senior
Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) found sophomore
Linsey Nester (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg) off a corner kick to give Cedar Crest the 2-0 advantage.
Graduate student
Ashley Whittaker (Huntersville, N.C. /Hopewell ) rounded out the first-half scoring with her fourth goal of the season to make the score, 3-0, at the half.
Sophomore
Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) opened the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 47
th minute. The tally was set up by senior
Madison VanKirk (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy).
Wolf netted her second goal of the game in the 66
th minute, marking her 18
th of the season. First-year
Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) closed the scoring with a goal in the 80
th minute. Kelly was given the helper on the marker as the match ended in the 6-0 final.
Cedar Crest controlled play throughout, outshooting the Ravens, 29-3 and had 16 corner kicks to Rosemont's two.
Senior
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) recorded the win in goal for the Falcons, making two saves in 69:33. First-year
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) played the last 20:27 and didn't face a shot. Sophomore
Marissa Lotierzo (Maple Shade, N.J.) registered 15 saves for the Ravens in the loss.
Cedar Crest (8-3-2 overall, 5-0-1 CSAC) welcomes in Notre Dame of Maryland University for its next match on Saturday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m. Rosemont (5-4-2 overall, 4-2-0 CSAC) returns to action at Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m.
