ALLENTOWN, Pa. – It was a record-setting day for senior
Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) as she set the single-season program record for goals scored as the Cedar Crest College soccer team defeated Notre Dame of Maryland University, 12-0, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tilt on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex.
Wolf also tied the single-match goals record with six in the match.
"Congratulations to our team for getting the result today," said Head Soccer Coach
Jesse Zafiratos. "We executed really well in the final third from start to finish and got the three points we needed to stay atop the conference."
Graduate student
Ashley Whittaker (Huntersville, N.C. /Hopewell ) put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the 11
th minute with the assist going to junior
Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee).
Wolf went onto net four straight goals to send Cedar Crest into the half with a 5-0 advantage.
Wolf opened the scoring in the second half with a marker in the 54
th minute. Whittaker picked up one of her five assists on the tally.
Whittaker found sophomore
Linsey Nester (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg) in the 58
th minute and Wolf in the 63
rd minute to grow the margin to 8-0. The tally from Wolf was the record-breaker.
"I couldn't be more proud of Taylor for breaking the single-season goal record here," said Zafiratos. "She has been super dangerous in the final third all season, and her ability to consistently finish has put us on a different level."
First-year
Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) registered back-to-back goals separated by 57 seconds while sophomore
Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) and Nester closed out the scoring for the Falcons in the 12-0 final.
Cedar Crest outshot the Gators, 67-0, and had 17 corner kicks in the victory.
Senior
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), along with first-years
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and
Maddie Kantawala (Havertown, Pa. /Haverford ) combined for the shutout in goal. First-year Makaylah Reyes made 31 saves in goal for Notre Dame.
Cedar Crest (9-3-2 overall, 6-0-1 CSAC) heads to the University of Valley Forge for a conference contest on Wednesday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m. Notre Dame of Maryland University (4-7 overall, 2-5 CSAC) will travel to Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
