SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Sweet Briar College, 3-2, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest on Saturday morning at Thayer Turf Field in the regular season finale for the Falcons.
The Vixens netted both of its goals in the second quarter. Junior Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) found the back of the cage in the 25
th minute off an assist from senior Ingrid Kalwitz (Antofagasta, Chile) to make it 1-0 and then Kalwitz scored in the 30
th minute to send Sweet Briar into the half with a 2-0 cushion.
Senior Kiley Marone put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the 40
th minute when she netted a goal off an assist from classmate Emily Demarest. Senior Amber Cieri tied the contest in the 52
nd minute on an unassisted marker.
Junior Adriana Hinkle deposited the game-winner in the 56
th minute, sending Cedar Crest to victory. The goal was assisted by Marone.
The Falcons had a 17-12 advantage in shots while Sweet Briar had one more corner, 7-6.
First-year Kendall Heiney converted five saves in the win while sophomore Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) recorded six saves in the loss.
Cedar Crest (8-8 overall, 4-2 CSAC) has qualified for the CSAC Championship Tournament as the number three seed and will travel to No. 2 seed Keystone College on Wednesday, November 2.
