ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team doubled up Wilkes University, 4-2, on Wednesday night in a non-conference game at the FalconPlex.
The teams traded goals in the opening quarter. Senior
Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) put one in the back of the cage in the second minute to put the Falcons up, 1-0, but junior Jordan Pugh (Plains, Pa.) answered for the Colonels in the seventh minute to knot the game at one.
After a scoreless second quarter, the teams each tallied one to remain deadlocked, 2-2. Marone registered another goal, this time in the 39
th minute, but junior Anmarie Lebron (Pennsauken, N.J.) scored for Wilkes in the 43
rd minute to even the contest.
The Falcons pulled away in the fourth, recording two goals off the stick of Marone for the 4-2 final.
Cedar Crest held a 16-12 edge in shots and had nine penalty corners to the Colonels' four.
First-year
Kendall Heiney (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) secured the win in goal for the Falcons, making seven saves in 60 minutes. Junior Carly Eidle (East Greenville, Pa.) registered nine stops in the loss for Wilkes.
Cedar Crest (4-6 overall) continues its homestand on Saturday, October 8 against Wilson College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup at 1:00 p.m. Wilkes (2-8 overall) returns to conference play on Saturday at Stevens with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
