BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team defeated Bryn Athyn College in straight sets, 3-0, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match on Saturday morning at Asplundh Field House.
The Falcons captured set scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-11 to move to 3-0 in conference action.
The Lions scored the first three points of the opening set and built a 5-2 lead early after a Cedar Crest setting error. The Falcons then rattled off a 6-0 run to grab an 8-5 advantage and the visitors never relinquished the lead after that. Cedar Crest used a 6-1 spurt in the middle of the set to make it 17-10. Bryn Athyn cut the margin to as few as three (19-16), but the Falcons used a 6-0 run to finish the set, 25-16.
In the early stages of the second set with the Lions up 4-3, Cedar Crest embarked on an 8-0 spurt to grab an 11-4 advantage. The Falcons went on another lengthy run in the stanza, scoring 10 straight points to snag a 15-point lead, 22-7, before coming away with the set, 25-10.
Cedar Crest continued its strong play in the third set. The Falcons went on a 12-2 run to go up 18-7, capped off by a kill from junior
Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic). Bryn Athyn tallied two consecutive points after that, but Cedar Crest closed on 7-2 spurt to finish the set with the 25-11 score.

Ziah Melton (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) paced the Falcons with six kills. Classmate
Maddison Minyo (Covington, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) followed with five kills, five digs, and four service aces. Senior
Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) collected four kills and added a team-high three blocks. Grapsy dished out a match-high 16 assists while classmate
Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) registered 12 digs.
Cedar Crest (6-6 overall, 3-0 CSAC) will head to Keystone College on Tuesday, October 11 in a conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m. Bryn Athyn (0-12 overall, 0-3 CSAC) will travel to Rosemont College for a league tilt on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
