Basketball Drops Home Opener to Keystone, 62-49

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College basketball team dropped a 62-49 decision to Keystone College on Wednesday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tilt at Lees Gymnasium.

The Giants outscored the Falcons 12-10 in the opening quarter, but Cedar Crest answered back with 19 points in the second quarter compared to Keystone's 15, capped off by a three from senior Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) at the buzzer to send Cedar Crest into the half with the 29-27 advantage.

The Giants came out strong in the third quarter with a 9-0 run to build a 36-29 lead, finished off with by a layup from senior Renata Alberici (Hazlet, N.J.). The Falcons pulled to within two (36-34),  but Keystone closed on an 11-2 spurt to head into the final stanza up 47-36.

The deficit grew to as many as 17 in the fourth quarter, before the Giants came away with the 13-point victory, 62-49.

First-year Kwashanti Holmes (Yonkers, N.Y.) paced Keystone with 14 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Alberici chipped in 10 points, nine boards, and two assists, while junior Riley Berry (Margate, Fla.) added 10 points, two caroms, and one steal.

Wilson guided the Falcons with a game-high 22 points. She also chipped in eight rebounds, nine steals, and one block. First-year Jordan McGhee (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) joined Wilson in double-figures with 16 points and a pair of rebounds. Sophomore Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) contributed six points, six boards, four assists, and a block. First-year Haivynn Kovach (Virginia Beach, Va./Churchland) had three points, five rebounds, and one assist while senior Kaylen Ledford (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) added two points and two rebounds.

Cedar Crest (0-4 overall, 0-2 CSAC) will round out 2022 with a road contest at Rosemont College on Saturday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m. Keystone (3-4 overall, 2-0 CSAC) stays on the road for a tilt at the University of Valley Forge on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
