Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Home Against Delaware Valley

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team came up short in a 19-13 final at home against Delaware Valley University on Tuesday night at the FalconPlex.

Sophomore Kyra McKeegan (King of Prussia, Pa.) netted five goals and added five assists to pace the Aggies, which led all scorers. Freshman Susan Rawding (Brookfield, Conn.) followed behind with five goals while sophomore Kiara Haywood-Rivera (Cinnaminson, N.J.), senior Jaden Keefer (Lebanon, Pa.), sophomore Ashley Birmingham (Leesport, Pa.), and senior Gabby Borst (Edgewood, Md.) each turned in multi-goal efforts.

Freshman Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) registered a team-high five goals for the Falcons. Classmate Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa. /Freedom) pitched in four goals and two helpers for a six-point night. She also recorded six draw controls and one ground ball. Sophomore Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical) contributed three points on two goals and an assist while junior Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) was the final Falcon with multiple points, registering two assists.  

The teams traded the first four goals of the contest and then the Aggies closed the opening quarter on a 3-0 run to make it a 5-2 score after one.

Delaware Valley started the second with two more to stretch the lead to five (7-2) on markers from McKeegan and Haywood-Rivera.

Cedar Crest answered back two straight tallies, one apiece from Graham and Sipel, but the Aggies scored two of their own over the final 5:40 to carry a 9-4 advantage into the half.

The teams combined for 12 total goals in the third quarter with the Aggies having the edge, 7-5. The Falcons netted three of the first four, two of which came from the stick of Sipel. Delaware Valley had a spurt of four of five goals to stretch the score to 16-8 with 3:17 left in the frame. Schoelier registered the final marker of the frame for Cedar Crest, finding the back of the net with 27 seconds on the clock to send the game into the final quarter with a 16-10 score in favor of Delaware Valley.

The Falcons would go on to outscore the Aggies 4-3 over the remainder of the contest in the 19-13 final. Graham netted the first three for the Falcons while Woomer scored with 2:42 left. Haywood-Rivera tallied the last goal of the game, beating the clock with one second to play.

Sophomore goalie Katie Frey (King of Prussia, Pa.) made four saves on the night in the win while sophomore Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) converted 18 stops in the loss.

Cedar Crest (0-2 overall) will next host Purchase College on Friday, March 25 at 5:00 p.m. Delaware Valley (1-4 overall) returns home to host New England College on Saturday, March 26 at noon.
