ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team took two games from Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon in its non-conference finale at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field, winning by finals of 7-2 and 11-4.
Game One – Cedar Crest 7, Delaware Valley 2
Delaware Valley grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer from sophomore Makenna Cooper (Lumberton, N.J.).
Cedar Crest tied the contest in the fourth. Graduate student
Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) delivered the first run for the Falcons on a double to right field, bringing around senior
Rachel Savini (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy). Later in the inning, senior
Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) connected on a single through the right side, plating Santaniello.
Cedar Crest added five more in the sixth. Senior
Sophia Callari (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) laid down a bunt which scored freshman
Anaya Duncan (Baltimore, Md. /Franklin). VanBuskirk crossed home on a passed ball for the next run. Junior
Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) singled in junior
Reilly Mateljan (Friedens, Pa./Somerset Area) while Savini put down a bunt, scoring freshman
Alex Mullen (Prospect Park, Pa. /Interboro ) from third. The final run of the game came by way of an RBI single to left field by graduate student
Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland). The base knock plated Snyder.
Senior
Lillian Boltz (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) picked up the win in the circle, making it her fifth of the year. She struck out one and walked two while allowing two runs on five hits.
Senior Olivia Monismith (Newville, Pa.) took the loss for the Aggies, dropping to 7-13 on the season. She gave up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and struck out eight.
Savini and VanBuskirk each had two hits for Cedar Crest.
Game Two – Cedar Crest 11, Delaware Valley 4
The first inning of game two featured seven runs. For the second straight game, Delaware Valley got on the scoreboard first with a two-run home run, this time from Monismith.
The Falcons responded with five in the bottom of the first. Tremblay singled through the left side, scoring Snyder. Junior
Brianna Lankford (Hanover, Pa./South Western Senior) gave Cedar Crest the 3-2 advantage following a single to center field, bringing around Tremblay and Savini. The last runs of the inning came on a two-run single to left center by VanBuskirk, making it a 5-2 score.
The Falcons tacked on three more in the second. Tremblay singled in Snyder with a base hit to left field while Lankford connected on a two-run double to left field, scoring Tremblay and Savini to extend the margin to six, 8-2.
The Aggies got a pair of runs back in the third frame. Freshman Emily Merrigan (Levittown, Pa.) delivered an RBI double to left field, plating Monismith. Merrigan would later score on a wild pitch.
Cedar Crest registered one in the fourth and two more in the fifth for the 11-4 final. Freshman
Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter) hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which was deep enough to score Santaniello from third.
Santaniello delivered the Falcons' final runs of the contest on a two-run single to right center in the fifth inning, scoring Snyder and freshman
Anaya Duncan (Baltimore, Md. /Franklin).
Sophomore
Corinne Mundy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush) secured her team-high eighth win in the circle for Cedar Crest. She tossed a complete game and allowed four runs on seven hits to go along with two walks and a strikeout.
Freshman Katherine Beckett (Stuart, Va.) was tagged with the loss for Delaware Valley. She surrendered eight runs (five earned) on eight hits while also walking a pair.
Lankford finished a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored in the nightcap. Tremblay and Snyder added three hits each while Santaniello recorded two.
Cedar Crest (16-11 overall) will host Saint Elizabeth University on Wednesday, April 27 in a conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. It will also be Senior Day for the Falcons.
