ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team closed the regular season with a 12-6 win over Sweet Briar College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on Saturday morning at the FalconPlex. It also marked Senior Day and the Falcons celebrated its three seniors:
Madyson Lagano (Elkton, Md./North East),
Sydney Heathcott (Newburgh, Ind./Castle), and
Kaitlyn Kozdron (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township ) in a special pregame ceremony.
The Falcons (3-7 overall, 2-4 CSAC) were led by freshman
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) a season-high six goals. Sophomore
Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical) pitched in with three goals while Lagano and sophomore
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) pitched in one goal apiece. Heathcott and freshman
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) added assists in the game.
Junior Kaylah Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) paced the Vixens (5-8, 2-4 CSAC) with three goals. Freshman Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.), sophomore Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.), and junior Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.) each added single tallies to round out the scoring.
Sweet Briar netted the first two goals of the game on markers from Chase and Bailey. Graham put the Falcons on the board with a tally with 9:14 remaining in the frame. Bailey found the back of the net again for the Vixens before Graham registered her second of the game for Cedar Crest with 32 seconds left to cut it to a one-goal deficit after one quarter, 3-2.
The Falcons returned the favor in the second, edging Sweet Briar 3-2 in the stanza. A tally from Woomer and two from Schoelier to make it a 5-3 game in favor of Cedar Crest. Heathcott assisted on Schoelier's first marker. The Vixens rallied with two straight with one from Foster and the other from Bailey to knot the contest at five heading into the half.
The Falcons broke the game open in the second half, outscoring Sweet Briar, 6-1, including 3-0 in the third quarter. Lagano netted the first, followed by one apiece from Schoelier and the other from Graham to put Cedar Crest up 8-5 with one quarter left.
Graham went on a personal 3-1 run in the fourth to make it an 11-6 final. Graham's opening marker of the frame was assisted by Jackson.
Cedar Crest registered 22 ground balls in the game, let by five from Kozdron. Lagano, Woomer, and freshman
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) pitched in three each. Sophomore
Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) recorded two while sophomore
Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township), junior
Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly), and Jackson finished with one each.
The Falcons also had six caused turnovers with Lagano and Kozdron tallying two apiece. Woomer and Heathcott closed the category with one each.
Cedar Crest secured 15 draw controls in the win, led by a game-high 11 from Lagano. Graham and Heathcott rounded out the column with a pair each.
Carver made seven saves in the victory. Sweet Briar sophomore Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) made eight stops between the pipes in the loss.
