Softball Finishes Regular Season with Sweep of Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team closed the regular season with a sweep at Keystone College, winning by scores of 3-1 and 6-2, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at Edmunds Field on Saturday afternoon.

Game One – Cedar Crest 3, Keystone 1

Cedar Crest jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning on an RBI single to right center by junior Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland). Freshman Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter) came around on the play to give the Falcons the 1-0 advantage.

Keystone tied the contest in the third as sophomore Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa.) singled to the pitcher and junior Alyssa Booth (Holland, Pa.) scored on an error.

Cedar Crest added a pair of runs in the fifth, both courtesy of the long ball. Graduate student Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) delivered a one-out, solo shot to left center, while junior Brianna Lankford (Hanover, Pa./South Western Senior) hit one over the left field fence to make it 3-1.

Sophomore Corinne Mundy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush) picked up her team-high tenth win in the circle and ninth complete game. She gave up the one run on six hits while fanning two and not issuing a walk. Sophomore Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J.) was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits to go along with four strikeouts and three walks.

Snyder and Santaniello each had two hits for the Falcons.

Game Two – Cedar Crest 6, Keystone 2

In game two, both teams got on the board in the middle innings. Cedar Crest got one in the third and another in the fourth. The first run came by way of a Snyder single up the middle. On the same play, Kline scored on an error by the catcher. Senior Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) followed with a single up the middle in the fourth, scoring graduate student Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) to make it 2-0 in favor of the Falcons.

Cedar Crest struck for four in the fifth to go up 6-0. Santaniello started things with an RBI single to center field. The base hit scored Snyder. VanBuskirk drove in two with a single to right field while Lankford plated the final tally on a single to right field by Kline.

The Giants registered two runs in the fifth, but was not enough as the Falcons came away with the four-run win, 6-2.

VanBuskirk paced Cedar Crest with a 3-for-4 game at the plate with three RBI. Four other Falcons had 2-for-4 games at the dish.

Senior Lillian Boltz (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) earned the win as she tossed five innings, allowing two runs and fanning one. Junior Jordan Frye (Cheltenham, Pa.) was credited with the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits while striking out three in five innings.

Cedar Crest finished the regular season with an 19-12 overall record (12-4 CSAC). Next up for the Falcons will be the CSAC Championships which is set to begin with the play-in game on Wednesday, May 4. The rest of the CSAC Championships games will take place May 6-7 at the No. 1 seed. The Falcons join Wilson, Rosemont, and Saint Elizabeth as the teams that have secured spots in the tournament.
