Lacrosse Knocked Off By Wilson in CSAC Opener

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team dropped a 16-2 decision at Wilson College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Phoenix to 3-7 overall (2-1 CSAC) while the Falcons slip to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Wilson would get on the board for the first time 3:33 into the opening quarter, before adding four more to take a 5-0 lead at the end of one. The Phoenix added five more in the second and would carry a 9-0 advantage into the break.

Cedar Crest netted its first of two goals in the third stanza at the 12:44 mark coming from the stick of freshman Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna). Graham would find the back of the net again just over seven minutes later to make the score 11-2. The Phoenix would go on to one more in the third and four in the fourth for the 16-2 final.

Cedar Crest had four players with three ground balls apiece in junior Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township), sophomore Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) , sophomore Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical), and sophomore Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon). Bailey DeNight (Norwood, Pa. /Interboro), senior Sydney Heathcott (Newburgh, Ind./Castle), and freshman Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) each finished with one ground ball each. Sears and Schoelier paced the Falcons in the caused turnover category with two each while Graham, Woomer, freshman Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit), and Rifino had one apiece.

Getting the start in goal for the Falcons was Carver, who recorded 19 saves in the contest.

Cedar Crest picked up 15 ground balls and took seven shots, six of which were on goal. The Falcons also had 11 clears and three draw controls to round out the stats.
