Softball Salvages Split at Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team split a pair of games at Wilson College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Game One – Wilson 7, Cedar Crest 1

Wilson got on the board in the second with an RBI double to left right field by senior Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, Pa.), scoring graduate student Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, Pa.). The Phoenix added another in the third when junior Alyssa Wenger (Chambersburg, Pa.) crossed home on a wild pitch to make the score 2-1.

Cedar Crest cut the two-run deficit in half in the fifth on an RBI single to left center by junior Brianna Lankford (Hanover, Pa./South Western Senior). The base knock scored freshman Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter).

Wilson added to the margin with four runs in the second. Graduate student Katey Roth (Lebanon, Pa.) delivered the first run on an RBI single to right, plating junior Kaesey Greene (Taneytown, Md.). Junior Taylor Barker (Chehalis, Wash.) followed with a two-run double to right center. Carty capped things off with a single to make it 6-1.

The Phoenix tacked on one more in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Wenger.

Graduate student Megan Potter (Hagerstown, Md.) allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings while striking out 13. The Falcons' freshman starter BB Aquila (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) yielded seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and punched out two.

Kline paced the Falcons with two hits in the opener.

Game Two – Cedar Crest 4, Wilson 2

Cedar Crest jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Graduate student Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) got things started with a two-out double to right center, driving in classmate Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) for the game's first run.

Wilson knotted the contest in the next half inning on an RBBI double by Barker, plating Roth.

The Falcons pulled in front in the third on another Tremblay two-bagger, which brought around Santaniello for the 2-1 advantage.

The Phoenix tied the game once again in the fourth on a solo home run to center field from Carty, deadlocking the game at two apiece.

Cedar Crest grabbed the lead for good in the fifth on a two-run home run by Santaniello to left center for the 4-2 final.

Sophomore Corinne Mundy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush) tossed a complete game in the circle for the Falcons. She allowed two runs on six hits while striking out and walking a pair of batters. Potter was given the loss for Wilson, surrendering four runs (two earned) on seven hits to go with one strikeout.

Tremblay paced Cedar Crest with a 2-for-3 game at the plate with two RBI. Senior Sophia Callari (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) also registered a pair of hits. Junior Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Santaniello, and senior Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) rounded out the hit column with one each.

Cedar Crest (8-9 overall, 3-3 CSAC) will have a quick turnaround as the Falcons return home to host Notre Dame of Maryland University in a conference doubleheader tomorrow Sunday, April 10 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wilson (10-9-1 overall, 4-2 CSAC) will return to action at Juniata College on Friday, April 15 starting at 3:00 p.m.
