Field Hockey Edges Eastern Mennonite in Overtime, 3-2

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team edged Eastern Mennonite University, 3-2, in overtime in a non-league contest on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) tallied the overtime game-winner just 1:49 into the extra frame to propel the Falcons to its first win of the season.

Cedar Crest jumped on the scoreboard in the 25th minute. After senior Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) played a penalty corner to classmate Morgan Frantz (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), Frantz played it right back to Cieri in front of the cage and the senior put the shot past the Royals' senior goalkeeper Marie Wilson (Aldie, Va.) for the 1-0 lead.

Eastern Mennonite netted the equalizer in the 34th minute as sophomore Morgan Leslie (Louisa, Va.) scored her third goal of the season with the helper going to senior Juliana Ghally (Aldie, Va.).

The teams then traded goals over a 50 second span. Senior Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) deposited her first goal of the season off an assist from junior Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) at the 36:51 mark and first-year Rileyanne Collins (Prince George, Va.) pulled the Royals even with a marker at 37:41 to tie the contest at two.

After Cieri broke up an attack on the defensive end, she found Jackson wide open in the middle of the field with just one defender and the Wilson to beat. Wilson came out of the cage to defend the play, but Jackson was able to sneak the shot past to give the Falcons the 3-2 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) tallied six saves in the win for Cedar Crest while Wilson made 17 stops in the cage for the Royals.

The Falcons outshot Eastern Mennonite, 24-13, and had 16 penalty corners to the Royals' nine.

Cedar Crest (1-2 overall) will begin a two-game road trip on Thursday, September 15 at Lebanon Valley College at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Mennonite (2-1 overall) concludes a three-game road trip on Wednesday, September 14 at Hood College with a start time of 4:00 p.m.
