ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team rolled to an 11-0 triumph over Wells College on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex on Homecoming Weekend, which also marked Senior Day. Prior to the contest, the program celebrated its six seniors in a special ceremony.
Senior
Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) paced the Falcons with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Seven other Cedar Crest student-athletes registered goals on the afternoon.
The Falcons started fast with four goals in the opening quarter. Junior
Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) got the scoring started in the second minute, followed by a marker from first-year
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton) ) in the fourth minute. Marone found the back of the cage for the last two goals of the first frame to make it a 4-0 game.
Cedar Crest registered another three in the second quarter. Sophomore
Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa. /Philadelphia E&T) scored her first career goal in the 20
th minute off an assist from Marone. Senior
Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and Marone rounded out the scoring to stretch the margin to 7-0 at the half.
The Falcons kept the offense going in the third, netting another three goals. Senior
Morgan Frantz (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), Marone, and first-year
Olivia Horninger (Friedens, Pa. /Northern Lehigh) were the recipients of the markers while first-year
Olivia Wanner (Lyons, Pa./Kutztown Area) rounded out the scoring column with a goal in the 46
th minute to make it the 11-0 final.
Cedar Crest controlled play throughout, dominating the shot column, 37-2, as well as in penalty corners, 10-1.
First-year goalkeeper
Kendall Heiney (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) made one save in goal for the Falcons. Junior Lauren Spiegel (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) converted 13 stops in the loss for the Express.
Cedar Crest (2-5 overall) starts Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at home against Keystone College on Wednesday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. Wells (0-4 overall) will remain on the road for a game at Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, October 1 at 5:00 p.m.
