ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team lost its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener to Keystone College, 5-1, on Wednesday night at the FalconPlex.

The Giants got on the scoreboard with three minutes remaining in the opening quarter on a marker by junior Jordan Vandermark (Hackettstown, N.J.), who would go onto score a pair of goals in the contest.

The 1-0 margin stood until the 21^st minute when Keystone junior Maria Tomada (Buenos Aries, Argentina) found the back of the cage to give the Giants the 2-0 advantage.
A tally by sophomore Makayla Batts (New Oxford, Pa.) in the 26^th minute pushed the lead to 3-0 in favor of Keystone and then Vandermark made it 4-0 with her second goal of the game in the 37^th minute. The assist went to Tomada. Tomada then made it 5-0 when she scored with one second remaining in the third quarter.

The Falcons got a goal back in the 58^th minute when junior Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) set up classmate Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton) ) for the tally to make it the 5-1 final.
Cedar Crest held an 11-10 edge in shots and had eight penalty corners to the Giants' five.

Junior Casey Statton (Elicott City, Md.) earned the win in the cage for Keystone, making five saves. First-year Kendall Heiney (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) took the loss for the Falcons, converting a pair of stops.

Cedar Crest (2-6 overall, 0-1 CSAC) will host Notre Dame of Maryland University in a conference tilt on Friday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m. Keystone (5-4 overall, 2-0 CSAC) returns home and will welcome in Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday, October 1 at 5:00 p.m.
