ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A seven-goal first quarter sparked the Cedar Crest College field hockey team to a 9-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest on Friday night at the FalconPlex.
Junior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton) ) paced the Falcons with four goals and one assist while senior
Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) pitched in a hat trick and one helper. Seniors
Morgan Frantz (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and
Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) closed out the scoring for Cedar Crest with one goal apiece.
The Falcons erupted for seven goals in the opening frame. Hinkle netted the first two, followed by a pair from Marone, which were separated by just 37 seconds. Hinkle added her third of the game in the seventh minute to make it 4-0. Marone and Frantz found the back of the cage in the 10
th and 12
th minute, respectively to push the lead to 7-0.
After a scoreless second quarter, Cedar Crest tallied its last two goals in the third quarter on markers by Hinkle and Cieri, making it the 9-0 final.
The Falcons controlled play throughout, outshooting the Gators, 41-0, and had five corners to NDMU's zero.
First-year goalkeeper
Kendall Heiney (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) did not face a shot in goal for the victory for Cedar Crest. First-year Harley Barton () made 11 stops in the loss for the Gators.
Cedar Crest (3-6 overall, 1-1 CSAC) will stay at home for a non-conference game against Wilkes University on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. Notre Dame of Maryland University (0-5 overall, 0-1 CSAC) hosts Wells College in a non-league tilt on Sunday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m.
