Volleyball Sweeps Immaculata Behind Strong Serving

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep of visiting Immaculata University at Lees Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to begin the action on Homecoming Weekend. Prior to the match, the Falcons received their 2021 CSAC Women's Volleyball Championship rings. Cedar Crest won by set scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-11 to secure the win.

The Mighty Macs grabbed a 7-3 lead early in the first set, but the Falcons responded with a 10-1 spurt behind strong serving from junior Daja Jackson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Gilbert ), which helped put the home team up, 13-8. The Falcons pushed the margin to as many as eight before coming away with the 25-16 opening set win.

The beginning moments of set two were tight with the teams being separated by one point after the first 19 with Cedar Crest being up 10-9. The Falcons rattled off another long run with a 7-0 streak to make the score 17-9. Cedar Crest doubled up Immaculata over the remainder of the set, 8-4, to take the frame, 25-13.

The squads traded the first 12 points of the third set before the Falcons went on another long run with Jackson on the serve. Cedar Crest registered seven straight points to turn a one-point deficit into a six-point lead (12-6). The Falcons stretched their lead to as many as 12 in the closing moments of the third before capturing the set and the match with a 25-11 third-set victory.

First-year Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona ) paced Cedar Crest with nine kills and three blocks. Junior Maddison Minyo (Covington, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) followed behind with six kills, three service aces, and eight digs. Junior Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) recorded five kills, three service aces, and a match-high 25 assists. Junior Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) finished with a match-high 23 digs.

Senior Isabelle Davis (Middletown, Del.) tallied a team-high five kills for Immaculata.

Cedar Crest (2-5 overall) continues a four-match homestand on Thursday, September 29 against Wilkes University. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
