ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior guard
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) poured in a game-high 26 points and scored her 1,000th career point to lead the Cedar Crest College basketball team to a 55-53 victory over visiting Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at Lees Gymnasium.
The Falcons improve to 1-10 overall and 1-8 in league play, while the Ravens fall to 2-12 overall and 2-8 in conference action.
Wilson hit a free throw with 58.7 seconds remaining in the third quarter to cap a three-point play as she became the 11
th player in school history to score 1,000 or more points for Cedar Crest and stands at 1,007 points for her tenure in Allentown.
Wilson has scored 25 or more points in each of the last four games and added nine rebounds, five steals, three assists, and two blocks for Cedar Crest. She was 9-for-21 from the floor and 6-for-13 from the free throw line. First-year
Jordan McGhee (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) joined Wilson with double figures, tallying 14 points to go along with one rebound, one assist, and three steals.
Sophomore Aalyssa Rogers (Houston, Texas) led Rosemont with 15 points, including 7-for-15 from the floor. She also pitched in four boards, five assists, and three steals. Sophomore Amiyah Dixon (Philadelphia, Pa.) registered nine points, three rebounds, and a steal. Sophomore Brittney Fils (Union, N.J.) recorded nine points, eight caroms, and a block.
The Falcons held Rosemont to single digits in each of the first two quarters and entered the half with 27-13 advantage.
The Ravens came out strong in the third stanza as the visitors went on a 22-2 run over the opening 6:12 to turn a 14-point halftime deficit into an eight-point lead, capped off by a free throw from Dixon to make the score 37-29 with 3:48 to play. Cedar Crest answered back with a run of its own, going on an 11-1 run to carry a 40-38 lead heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter featured four ties and five lead changes. With the contest tied 46-all with 5:10 remaining in regulation, the Falcons netted four-straight points on a pair of jump shots by McGhee to send the score to 50-46 with 3:01 left.
Rosemont had one final run in them, going 7-2, completed with a three-pointer by graduate student Shirle Brown (Middletown, Del.) with 42 ticks to play to make the score 53-52. That was the final bucket that the Ravens would score in the contest. Wilson came right back with a layup and then iced the game with a free throw for the 55-53 final.
Cedar Crest returns to action on Wednesday, January 25 when it hosts CSAC foe Clarks Summit University at Lees Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m., while Rosemont returns home on the same night to take on league opponent Notre Dame of Maryland University at 7:00 p.m.
