ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team held on for a 3-2 victory over Lancaster Bible College in a United East Conference contest on Tuesday night at the FalconPlex.
The Falcons got on the board in the first quarter when sophomore
Olivia Wanner (Lyons, Pa./Kutztown Area) found the back of the cage in the ninth minute off assists from seniors
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) and
Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) to give Cedar Crest the 1-0 lead.
The home team added another tally in the second quarter when junior
Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T) picked up her second goal of the season in the 20
th minute. Graduate student
Emily Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) was credited with the assist to stretch the advantage to 2-0.
After a scoreless third stanza, the teams combined for three goals in the fourth frame. Junior
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) deposited a shot to increase the margin to 3-0. Sophomore
Olivia Horninger (Friedens, Pa./Northern Lehigh) was credited with the helper on the goal.
The Chargers were able to find the back of the cage twice in the final six minutes of regulation on a pair of goals by junior Molly Gray (Schaefferstown, Pa.) to cut the deficit to 3-2, the eventual final.
First-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) recorded the win in goal for Cedar Crest, making one save in 30 minutes. Junior
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) played the final 30 minutes in between the posts. Sophomore Amanda Hoover (Bowmansville, Pa.) converted seven saves in the loss for Lancaster Bible.
The Falcons held a 14-4 advantage in shots and had eight penalty corners to the Chargers' six.
Cedar Crest (4-12 overall, 1-1 United East) wraps up the regular season with a road tilt at Wilson College on Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m. Lancaster Bible (4-12 overall, 0-3 United East) has concluded its regular season and will await the United East Conference Championship Tournament pairings later this week.
