ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The top-seeded Cedar Crest College volleyball team begins the United East Conference Championship Tournament against No. 4 seed Cairn University for a Skye Division semifinal on Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m.
The Falcons and Highlanders square off for the first time since October 25, where Cedar Crest came out with a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-12, 25-20).
Cairn advanced to the Divisional Semifinal with a sweep of No. 5 Bryn Athyn College on Saturday. The Falcons earned a bye into the semifinal round by securing the best record in the Skye Division (9-0).
Cedar Crest comes into the match with a 14-8 overall record while the Highlanders sit at 15-9.
Offensively, the Falcons are led by senior
Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), who has tallied 196 kills, 198 assists, 35 service aces, 203 digs, 17 total blocks. Sophomore
Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) has added 173 kills, 16 assists, seven service aces, 33 digs, and a team-high 55 blocks. Junior
Alexis Cummins (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) comes into the match with 115 kills, 16 assists, 25 service aces, 166 digs, and eight total blocks. Seniors
Ziah Melton (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) and
Maddison Minyo (Covington, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) have registered over 100 kills each on the season with 115 and 111, respectively. First-year
Nikki Blair (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) has tallied 399 assists on the season while senior
Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) has led the Cedar Crest defense with 367 digs.
Cairn is led by junior Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand), who has collected 241 kills, 11 assists, 52 service aces, 338 digs, and nine total blocks. Junior Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, Pa.) has recorded 240 kills, nine assists, 40 digs, and 48 total blocks. First-year Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, Md.) is the final student-athlete with 100-plus kills, tallying 135 kills, 14 assists, 32 service aces, 282 digs, and five blocks. Senior Olivia Zepp (Westminster, Md.) has dished out 671 assists while sophomore Payton Cline (Falling Waters, W. Va.) ranks second on the team with 284 digs.
