ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The No. 1 seeded Cedar Crest College volleyball team will square off with second-seeded Notre Dame of Maryland University in the United East Conference Championship Tournament for the Skye Division finals on Thursday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m.
The Falcons and Gators will face each other for the first time since September, where Cedar Crest came out on top with a 3-1 victory (25-11, 25-15, 20-25, 25-21).
NDMU advanced to the Divisional Finals with a four-set win over No. 3 seed Keystone College on Tuesday night (23-25, 30-28, 25-13, 25-22). Junior Ciarra Bockstie (Nottingham, Md.) led the way with 16 kills to go along with two blocks and a dig. Senior Miasia Ferrer (Owings Mills, Md.) added 10 kills and two digs. First-year Shelbey Wilson (Dares Beach, Md.) pitched in 22 assists, three service aces, one block, and 10 digs. Senior Natalie Newton (Harpers Ferry, W. Va.) tallied 20 assists, two service aces, and eight digs. Senior Paulina Hernandez (El Paso, Texas) recorded a match-high 33 digs while Jade Stewart () registered 25 digs of her own.
Cedar Crest moved onto the Division Finals with a sweep of No. 4 Cairn University on Tuesday evening (25-17, 25-20, 25-20). Sophomore
Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) paced the Falcons with 10 kills to go along with two blocks and a dig. Senior
Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) chipped in six kills, six service aces, one block, 15 assists, and seven digs. Senior Minyo added six kills and 13 digs. Johnson pitched in six kills, one block, and one dig. Senior
Ziah Melton (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) registered five kills, two blocks, and two digs. Junior
Alexis Cummins (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had three kills, one service ace, one block, and seven digs. First-year
Nikki Blair (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied 16 assists, three service aces, and six digs. Senior
Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) paced the Cedar Crest defense with 20 digs.
The winner of Thursday's match between the Falcons and Gators will be named as the United East Conference Skye Division Champions and will host the winner of the Volt Division (either No. 1 Gallaudet University or No. 2 Lancaster Bible College) on Saturday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. with the conference's automatic bid on the line to the NCAA Tournament.
