WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Lycoming College, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at Brandon Park.
The Warriors took all three doubles matches to grab the early advantage. Junior Hannah Seebold (New Columbia, Pa.) and junior Emily Wolfgang (Allentwood, Pa.) topped juniors
Katherine Franzone (Mount Bethel, Pa./Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) and
Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) at first doubles, 8-1. Senior
Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) and first-year
Katie Browning (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) fell to sophomore Rei Saar (Montoursville, Pa.) and first-year Emma Kelchner (Nescopeck, Pa.) at No. 2 doubles in an 8-2 final. Lycoming completed the doubles sweep after junior Haley Seebold (New Columbia, Pa.) and sophomore Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y.) defeated junior
Megan Fiedler (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) and senior
Brittany Schultz (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) at third doubles, 8-1.
In singles play, the Warriors took all six points. Spagnola fell to Han. Seebold at No. 1 (6-0, 6-2). Wolfgang took down Franzone at second singles by 6-2, 6-3 scores. Saar defeated Wolf at the No. 3 spot, 6-2 and 6-1. Kelchner got by Browning at fourth singles by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Lanphear earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Schultz at No. 5 while at sixth singles, junior Hayori Iai (Zushi, Japan) beat sophomore
Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), 6-1 and 6-1.
Cedar Crest (0-4 overall) will start conference play at home against Cairn University on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. Lycoming (5-4 overall) will play host to Arcadia University in its conference opener on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
