Tennis Tripped Up at Neumann; Browning Earns Wins at Singles and Doubles

ASTON, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat to Neumann University on Tuesday afternoon at the ESCS Memorial Courts.

The Knights claimed two of the three doubles points for the early advantage. The first doubles team of junior Hannah Asaka (Upper Darby, Pa.) and senior Dari Troilo (Philadelphia, Pa.) blanked the Falcons' team of junior Katherine Franzone (Mount Bethel, Pa./Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) and senior Brittany Schultz (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), 8-0. The Cedar Crest No. 2 doubles tandem of first-year Katie Browning (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and senior Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) edged sophomore Kaitlyn Smith (Wilmington, Del.) and first-year Alura Troilo (Philadelphia, Pa.), 8-7 (7-4). The third doubles match also went to a tiebreak and saw the Neumann duo of juniors Kylie Seeger (Glenolden, Pa.) and Kannitha Phosouvanh-Sythong (Upper Darby, Pa.) getting by junior Megan Fiedler (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) and sophomore Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), 8-7 (7-3).

Neumann went onto take five of the six singles matches. Smith beat Franzone at the top spot, 6-0 and 6-2. Wolf fell at No. 2 to D. Troilo in a 6-1, 6-0 final. A. Troilo defeated Schultz at number four, 6-0 and 6-0. Seeger took down O'Connor at the No. 5 spot by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 while the Knights picked up its last point when first-year Kayleigh DelleVecchio (Upper Chichester, Pa.) won at No. 6 over Fiedler by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores.

Cedar Crest collected its second point when Browning took Asaka to a ten-point tiebreak to decide third singles. Asaka won the first set, 6-2. Browning evened it with a 6-4 win in the second. The Falcons' first-year then went onto double up her opponent in the tiebreak, 10-5, to secure the win.
