ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match at Muhlenberg College on Tuesday night at Memorial Hall, 3-0.
\The Mules won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-18.
Muhlenberg got out to an 8-3 advantage in the first set after a 4-0 run. The Mules maintained a five-point lead 11-6, but the Falcons pulled to within one, 17-16, after back-to-back attack errors. The home squad then closed the set on an 8-3 run to take the opening frame by a 25-19 score.
\Muhlenberg used a 5-0 run in the second set to turn a two-point deficit into a three-point lead, 9-6, after an attack error. Later in the set, Cedar Crest cut the deficit to one, 15-14, following an attack error by the Mules. The home team pushed the margin back to at least three points for the remainder of the set before coming away with the 25-18 win.
Despite falling behind 8-0 to start the third set, Cedar Crest were able to trim the deficit to one, 19-18, following an attack error. The Mules then finished the frame on a 6-0 run to take the set and the match.
Senior
Maddison Minyo (Covington, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) paced the Falcons with six kills, one service ace, and seven digs. Classmate
Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) finished with five kills, and nine digs. Senior
Ziah Melton (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) followed with four kills and a team-high three blocks. Senior
Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) guided the Cedar Crest defense with 16 kills to go along with three assists.
Cedar Crest (4-2 overall) will next play against Stockton University on Friday, September 15 at 6:00 p.m. The match will take place at Neumann University as a part of the Knights Invitational. Muhlenberg (6-2 overall) will next face Kean University on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
