ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team was topped by Stevenson University in a 6-0 final on Wednesday night at the FalconPlex.
The Mustangs deposited a pair of goals in the first quarter. Senior Rylee Leakway (Conestoga, Pa.) put one in the back of the cage in the 10
th minute, which came off an assist from junior Haley Palmer (Owing Mills, Md.). Senior Emma Gladstein (Sykesville, Md.) netted her first of three goals on the night in the 13
th minute to make the score, 2-0.
Stevenson added three in the second stanza. Macy Kosanovich got the first of the frame, followed by two in a row from Gladstein to extend the lead to 5-0.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Mustangs tacked on one in the final 15 minutes. First-year Anna Zadel (Yorktown, Pa.) was credited with the final marker, which came in the 53
rd minute, to make it the 6-0 final.
Senior Eve Vickery (Pasadena, Md.) split time in goal with first-year Jordan Vradenburgh (Fairless Hills, Pa.). Vickery recorded the win for Stevenson. First-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) was given the loss for the Falcons while registering six saves in 33:04. Classmate
Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) played 26:56 of game action and picked up one save.
Stevenson held a 13-1 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in penalty corners.
Cedar Crest (1-3 overall) will play host to Delaware Valley University on Saturday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. Stevenson (4-1 overall) returns home to Maryland and will welcome in Bridgewater College on Saturday at noon.
