ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team suffered a 2-0 loss to Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon in a non-league tilt at the FalconPlex.
The Aggies tallied its first goal of the game in the third minute when sophomore Maggie Helsel (Bethlehem, Pa.) connected with sophomore Kenzie Boyd (Lurgan, Pa.) on a pass and Boyd put a shot past Falcons' first-year goalkeeper
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) for the 1-0 advantage.
Delaware Valley added an insurance marker in the fourth quarter as junior Paige Sammons (Seaford, Del.) found the back of the cage, which came off an assist from senior Sydney Keagle (Catonsville, Md.) to make the score 2-0, the eventual final.
Senior Alyssa Rudd (Belvidere, N.J.) recorded the win in the cage for the Aggies. The senior played 15 minutes and did not record a save. Schrader and classmate
Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) split time in goal for Cedar Crest. Schrader registered five saves, while Heater was credited with six.
Delaware Valley had a 17-5 advantage in shots and had 11 corners to the Falcons' four.
Sophomore
Olivia Horninger (Friedens, Pa./Northern Lehigh) led Cedar Crest with three shots, with two being on goal while senior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) had two shots.
Cedar Crest (1-4 overall) will next play at Lycoming College on Tuesday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. Delaware Valley (1-3 overall) starts a three-game homestand on Tuesday as they host Neumann University at 7:00 p.m.
