Soccer Tripped Up By NJCU in Home Opener, 2-0

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team was tripped up by New Jersey City University, 2-0, in its home opener on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at the FalconPlex.

After a scoreless first half, the Gothic Knights broke through for a pair of goals. Senior Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J.) registered the initial tally in the 49th minute. Brites gathered the ball after a shot from sophomore Becky Lopez (Mountain View, Calif.) went off the crossbar and put the shot in the back of the net.

Brites got her second goal of the game in the 81st minute with the helper going to sophomore Jess Digristina (Marlton, N.J.) to push the score to 2-0, the eventual final.

Sophomore Sophia Mannino (Burlington, N.J.) was credited with two saves in goal and the win for NJCU. Sophomore Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) picked up 11 saves in the setback for the Falcons.

The Gothic Knights held a 22-3 advantage in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. Two of the Cedar Crest shots were on goal. First-year Avery Kramer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area), junior Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman), and sophomore Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) had one shot each for the Falcons.

Cedar Crest (0-2-1 overall) starts a five-match road trip at Albright College on Saturday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. New Jersey City University (2-3-0 overall) returns to the pitch on Monday, September 18 at Sarah Lawrence College at 7:00 p.m.
