ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team was defeated by FDU-Florham in a 2-0 final on Friday night in a non-conference clash at the FalconPlex.
The Devils got its goals in the second and third quarters to pick up the victory. Senior Megan Surgent (Wall, N.J.) put FDU-Florham in front with a tally just 29 seconds into the second stanza when she fired a shot from just inside the circle that went through the Falcons' defense and past first-year goalkeeper
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) to give the visitors the 1-0 advantage.
FDU-Florham recorded an insurance goal in the 40
th minute on a marker from sophomore Julianna Medina (Linwood, N.J.) to make it the 2-0 final with the assist going to junior Morgan Keller (Toms River, N.J.).
The Devils had a 15-9 edge in shots and had 16 penalty corners to Cedar Crest's six.
Junior Emily Schlessinger (Ashbury, N.J.) was credited with the win in goal for FDU-Florham, making four saves. Schrader was tagged with the loss and converted 10 saves.
Cedar Crest (1-6 overall) will look to rebound on Monday, September 25 in a road game at Gwynedd Mercy University at 7:00 p.m. FDU-Florham (3-4 overall) will host Moravian University for its next contest on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m.
