Field Hockey Uses Shootout to Down Mighty Macs

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team defeated Immaculata University by a score of 1-0 with the victory coming in a decisive 2-1 advantage in a shootout on Wednesday night at the FalconPlex.

The score after regulation was tied 0-0. The Mighty Macs held a 13-8 edge in shots in the contest and had 11 penalty corners to the Falcons' 10.

After a pair of overtime periods, Cedar Crest won the shootout by a score of 2-1. In the first round of the shootout, Lauren Vandenbraak scored to put the Mighty Macs in front. The Falcons evened things in the shootout with a nifty goal from sophomore Olivia Horninger (Friedens, Pa./Northern Lehigh), as she put the shot up and over Immaculata junior goalkeeper Julia Levase (Claymont, Del). With the score tied at one, the shootout started another full round and on the Falcons' fourth opportunity, first-year Emmi Cheesman (Pittsgrove, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) gave Cedar Crest the victory when she beat Levase low for the 2-1 shootout win.

First-year goalkeeper Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) was stellar on the defensive end, making four saves including a number of key stops in the shootout.

Levase was tagged with the loss in goal for Immaculata, converting three saves.

Cedar Crest (2-7 overall) will return to the field when it hosts Hood College on Saturday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day. Immaculata (3-6 overall) will travel to Arcadia University for a non-league matchup on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
