Hood Clips Field Hockey in Double Overtime on Senior Day, 2-1

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – First-year Bella Butler (Hamilton, Va.) put home a shot 3:58 into the second overtime period to lift Hood College past Cedar Crest College, 2-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex on Senior Day.

Prior to the contest, the program honored its three seniors: Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)), Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon), and Charlie McClain (Willingboro, N.J./Holy Cross Preparatory Academy) in a special ceremony.

Following a scoreless first half, the Falcons registered the initial goal of the contest in the third quarter. Hinkle sent the ball to sophomore Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) off of a corner and the sophomore fired a shot that got past junior Richana Brown (Dover, Del.), which put Cedar Crest in front 1-0.

The Blazers netted the equalizer in the 52nd minute when junior Phebe Frost (Glennwood, Md.) set up first-year Bailey Oberholtzer (Ephrata, Pa.) to knot the contest at one.
The contest would eventually head to overtime and after the first extra period, the score remained tied.

In the second overtime period, Hood pushed the ball up the field and put three shots on goal, with the final one finding the back of the cage from the stick of Butler to give the Blazers the win.

Hood held a 23-7 advantage in shots in the game and had 10 corners to the Falcons' three.

Brown was credited with the win in goal for the Blazers, converting four saves. Junior Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) was tagged with the loss in her first action of the season, making five stops. First-year Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) played 40 minutes of action and stopped nine shots.

Cedar Crest (2-8 overall) remains home for its next contest on Wednesday, October 4 against Albright College at 7:00 p.m. Hood (8-2 overall) will travel to Southern Virginia University for a non-league tilt on Monday, October 2 at 5:00 p.m.
