ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 setback to Wilson College in a United East Conference contest on Friday night at the FalconPlex. Prior to the game the Falcons honored its three seniors
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon),
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit), and
Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T) in a special ceremony.
The Phoenix registered its first goal at 4:19 off the stick of junior Paige Ney (Biglersville, Pa.) with the assist going to senior Payton Kendall (McConnellsburg, Pa.) to put Wilson up 1-0.
The visitors added a tally in the second quarter at 20:30 when senior Hailey Steele (Biglersville, Pa.) finding the back of the cage off a helper from sophomore Kate Seymour(Churchton, Md.).
Ney deposited another goal at 31:04 coming off a helper from junior Lizzie Landon (West Grove, Pa.) to extend the lead to 3-0.
Cedar Crest put a shot home at 44:39 following a flurry of action in front of the net. Junior
Avery Daku (Northampton, Pa./Catasauqua) was the recipient of the goal with the assists going to junior
Olivia Horninger (Friedens, Pa./Northern Lehigh) for the 3-1 final.
Wilson had a 20-5 advantage in the shot category and had 11 penalty corners to the Falcons' four. Wanner took two shots, while junior
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township), Sabir, and Daku each finished with one.
First-year Erin Sullivan (Byram, N.J.) recorded the win in goal for the Phoenix, making a pair of saves. Sophomore
Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) collected 13 saves in the loss for Cedar Crest.
Cedar Crest (3-10 overall, 0-2 United East) will trek to Immaculata University for its next game on Monday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. Wilson (9-2 overall, 2-0 United East) will return to action on Wednesday, October 16 in a home game against St. Mary's College of Maryland at 4:00 p.m.
