LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team's comeback bid fell short in a 2-1 loss to Cairn University in a United East Conference contest at the Stillman Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Highlanders struck first with a goal in the sixth minute off the foot of sophomore Emily Brittin (Winslow, N.J.) with the assist going to classmate Paige Noble (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) to put Cairn up 1-0.
The home team tacked on an insurance tally as first-year Juliana Condurso (Brick, N.J.) found the back of the net in the 58
th minute. The helper was credited to classmate Josey Smith (Levittown, Pa.) as the Highlanders increased its lead to 2-0.
The Falcons cut the deficit in half when senior
MacKayla Reed (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area Senior) deposited a shot in the 85
th minute off an assist from graduate student
Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) to make the score 2-1, the eventual final.
Junior Elizabeth Cobb (Cortland, N.Y.) recorded one save in goal in the victory for Cairn. Junior
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) registered seven stops in the setback for Cedar Crest.
The Highlanders outshot the Falcons, 25-2, and had six corner kicks to Cedar Crest's five. Senior
Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) and Reed had one shot apiece for the visitors.
Cedar Crest (3-5-2 overall, 1-2-1 United East) hosts the University of Valley Forge for its next contest on Wednesday, October 16 at 4:00 p.m. Cairn (3-7-1 overall, 3-2-0 United East) will face Rosemont College in a road match on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
