WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Trinity Washington University, 4-3, on Friday, October 11.
The Tigers began the afternoon by capturing the double point with winning two of the three doubles matches. The Falcons' first doubles pair of first-year
Raury Barnard (Elkton, Md./Northeast) and sophomore
Grace Huff (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) fell to Guyberlie Cinada and sophomore Sydney Ware, 7-5. Senior
Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and sophomore
Cam Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) picked up the Falcons' only doubles win by defeating first-years Dora Alverez and Shahara Coy at second doubles, 6-2. Kyliah White and Zion Daodu defeated senior
Gracelynn Pauley (New Oxford, Pa./South Western) and sophomore
Aleice Cherry (Raleigh, N.C./Oscar Smith) in third doubles, 6-3.
Barnard opened singles play and was defeated by Cinada by identical 6-2 scores at the No. 1 spot. O'Connor fell to Ware at second singles (6-1, 2-6,10-4). Huff picked up the first singles win of the day by defeating Alvarez by 6-2, 6-0 scores at the No. 3 slot. Beverage got by Coy, 6-1 and 6-4, at fourth singles. Pauley was defeated by White in fifth singles, 6-3 and 7-5. Cherry rounded out the Falcons' with the final win of the day by defeating Maria Erazo 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 slot.
Cedar Crest (0-2 overall) will return to the courts away against Penn State Harrisburg for a United East Conference matchup on Saturday, March 22. Trinity Washington (3-5 overall) will travel to Sweet Briar College on Saturday, March 22 at 12:00 p.m.
