Volleyball Falls to Saint Elizabeth

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Saint Elizabeth University in a United East Conference match on Tuesday night at Lees Gymnasium.

The Eagles took the match by scores of 25-16, 27-25, and 25-15.

Saint Elizabeth raced out to an 8-1 lead in the opening set. The Falcons cut the margin to one after a 7-1 run to make the score 9-8. The visitors then embarked on a 12-1 run to push the score to 21-9. Cedar Crest put together a late 5-1 spurt, but the Eagles closed out the frame with a nine-point win, 25-16.

Saint Elizabeth held an 8-6 advantage in the early stages of the second set. The Falcons then went on a 13-4 run, capped off by an ace from sophomore Tianlly Davila (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) to give Cedar Crest a seven-point lead, 19-12. The Eagles answered back with an 8-1 run of their own to knot the score at 20. The squads traded two-point leads late in the stanza and after a kill by junior Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) to tie the score at 25, a service error by the Falcons and a Saint Elizabeth service ace gave the Eagles the second set by a 27-25 score.

Saint Elizabeth began the third set on an 8-1 run. Later in the frame, the Falcons cut the deficit to three, 17-14, but the Eagles finished on an 8-1 run to capture the set, 25-15, and the match in straight sets.

Everett recorded a match-high 12 kills and added two blocks. Davila dished out 18 assists and pitched in three service aces and six digs. Graduate student Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) collected a team-high nine digs.

Sophomore Dadlyna Louis (East Orange, N.J.) registered a team-high 10 kills and added one assist, one service ace, and three blocks for Saint Elizabeth.

Cedar Crest (9-15 overall, 4-5 United East) will conclude the regular season with a road match at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. Saint Elizabeth (10-13 overall, 3-6 United East) returns home to host Penn College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m
