MIDDLETOWN Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team dropped a conference tilt to Penn State Harrisburg at the PSH Turf Field in a 6-0 final on Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions got on top with two goals in the first half. Junior Katelyn Monette (Lebanon, Pa.) scored her first goal of the season and the first goal of the day in the eighth minute of play. Junior Mackenzie Mowery (Hummelstown, Pa.) and first-year Ciera Frick (Chesapeake, Va.) were both credited with the assists. Sophomore Julia Hughes (Middletown, Pa.) was set up by junior Ava Myers (York, Pa.) in the 19
th minute to make the score 2-0. That score lasted until halftime.
Hughes assisted junior Serenity Hill (New Bloomfield, Pa.) in the 49
th minute of action to build a 3-0 advantage for the Lions. Hughes and Monette each tallied their second goals of the game just 24 seconds apart to put the Lions up 5-0. Hughes' goal went unassisted while Hughes assisted Monette's goal. In the 83
rd minute of play, first-year Ava Fox (Hillsborough, N.J.) made the score 6-0 with an assist by classmate Peyton Huber (Stevensville, Md.) for the final goal of the match.
Junior goalkeeper
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) recorded 11 saves in the loss for Cedar Crest. Junior Sydney Mulka (Albion, N.Y.) and first-year Alexis Valenta (Highland Park, N.J.) faced zero shots in their 45 minutes of play each. Mulka was credited with the win for the Lions.
The Lions outshot Cedar Crest 24-0 in the contest. Penn State Harrisburg had nine corner kicks to the Falcons' zero.
Cedar Crest (3-3-2 overall, 1-1-1 United East) will host Penn College on Tuesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. Penn State Harrisburg (4-4-3 overall, 2-0-0 United East) will return to action on Tuesday at home against Penn State Brandywine for a United East Conference match. The match is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
