Volleyball Heads to Penn State Abington for United East Conference Tournament First Round Match on Wednesday

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team has captured the No. 10 seed for the United East Conference Championship Tournament and will head to seventh-seeded Penn State Abington for a First Round Match on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m.

The Falcons and Nittany Lions meet for the first time this season. Cedar Crest comes into the match with a 9-16 overall record (4-6 United East). Penn State Abington sits at 20-5 overall and finished the season with a 7-3 mark in league action.

Junior Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) leads the Falcons' offense with 208 kills. Graduate student Ziah Melton (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) collected 171 kills. Senior Akashia Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) topped the 100-kill plateau in the regular season, tallying 105. Sophomore Tianlly Davila (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) dished out a team-best 467 assists and added 36 service aces. Graduate student Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) paces the team with 441 digs while Everett has recorded a team-high 62 blocks.

Sophomore Zayna Jamaladdin (Philadelphia, Pa.) paces the Nittany Lions with 218 kills. First-year Ellie Van Otten (Buckeye, Ariz.) followed with 216. Junior Alyssa Flickinger (Harrisburg, Pa.) and sophomore Kayla Mason (Tampa, Fla.) each collected over 100 kills on the season with 152 and 137, respectively. First-year McKinley Grimm (Liberty Hill, Texas) has handed out a team-high 641 assists and Jamaladdin has registered 54 service aces. First-year Fabiola Medina (Caguas, Puerto Rico) guides the Nittany Lion defense with 353 digs and sophomore Brynn Atkins (Morristown, N.J.) has a team-best 75 blocks.

The winner of the Cedar Crest/Penn State Abington match will face No. 2 seed Lancaster Bible College in a quarterfinal match on Saturday, November 9.
