Tennis Blanked By East Stroudsburg University

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team lost to East Stroudsburg University in a 9-0 final on Sunday afternoon at the Cedar Crest Tennis Courts.
 
The Warriors began the day with a 3-0 score in doubles play. The Falcons' first doubles pair of seniors Katherine Franzone (Mount Bethel, Pa./Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) and Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) fell to senior Samantha Passmore (Swiftwater, Pa.) and first-year Katrina Ricci (Dickson City, Pa.), 8-2. Graduate student Alessia Bianchini (Caracas, Venezuela) and graduate student Sherin Paul (Castries, Saint Lucia) defeated junior Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and senior Megan Fiedler (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) with a score of 8-1 at second doubles. Junior Grace Nieman (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) and first-year Grace Huff (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) lost to first-year Carley Furlow (Harrisburg, Pa.) and sophomore Jazmine Parker (York, Pa.), 8-5, at No. 3 doubles.  
 
East Stroudsburg captured all six singles matches for the sweep. Spagnola opened singles play and was defeated by Passmore at first singles by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Franzone was taken down by Bianchini at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-1. Fiedler fell to Paul by a 6-1, 6-0 final score at third singles. Ricci defeated O'Connor at the No. 4 spot, 6-0 and 6-0. Furlow got by Nieman at fifth singles by 6-2, 6-4 scores. Parker defeated Huff at No. 6 in a 6-2, 6-4 final.
 
Cedar Crest (0-6 overall) will return to the courts home against Notre Dame of Maryland University to open United East Conference-Skye Division play on Thursday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m. East Stroudsburg (1-4 overall) will travel to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales University on Sunday, March 24 at 4:00 p.m.
