ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team fell to Rutgers-Camden on Senior Day, 8-1, on Friday afternoon at the Cedar Crest Tennis Courts.
The Raptors began the day by sweeping doubles play. The Falcons' first doubles pair of seniors
Katherine Franzone (Mount Bethel, Pa./Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) and Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) fell to sophomore Katie Moore (West Deptford, N.J.) and Sophomore Ashton Sirko (Woolwich, N.J.), 8-1. First-years Alyssa Peacock (Williamstown, N.J.) and Nicoletta Troilo (Laurel Springs, N.J.) defeated junior
Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and senior
Megan Fiedler (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) with a score of 8-4 at second doubles. Junior
Grace Nieman (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) and first-year
Camber Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) lost to first-year Bella Martinez (Vineland, N.J.) and junior Jayde Sue Silva (Sicklerville, N.J.), 8-4.
Spagnola opened singles play and was defeated by Moore at first singles 6-0 and 6-0. Franzone was taken down by Sirko the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-0. Martinez defeated Fiedler at the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-1. O'Connor was defeated by Silva at fourth singles, 6-0 and 6-0. Nieman picked up the Falcons' first win in fifth singles taking down Peacock in a third set super tiebreak (6-3, 3-6, 10-4). Troilo defeated Beverage at No. 6 in an 8-4 final.
Cedar Crest (0-7 overall) will return to the courts home against Lycoming College on Monday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m. Rutgers University-Camden (3-2 overall) will travel to Glenside, Pa. to take on Arcadia University on Saturday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m.
